Christmas makeup tips for a flawless holiday season

Everything you need to be stylish and chic through all the festivities!

Christmas season is almost here and with it comes the usual busy social calendar of office parties, galas, family gatherings, getaways and much more! We know how important it is for you to look your festive best to ensure you turn heads at all these social outings. No fear, Maybelline New York has you covered with the hottest tips for festive, chic makeup looks to keep you stylish and on trend for all the events this holiday season! As the world’s number one makeup brand, we also know just how to help you take all the latest trends from the catwalk to the sidewalk – or in this case, to the yuletide – this season, so let’s get started!

1. We’re starting our tip list with the basics – foundation! Much like a building, if you don’t have a strong foundation, your finished look is just not going to be strong. Test your foundation shade on your jaw line to ensure you have an accurate match and when

applying, blend all the way down the neck for a smoother finish.

2. Next up is a quintessential Christmas favorite, the bold red lip! Although we love this look for so many other occasions (date night or when you need to look like a powerhouse at the office…) it’s also perfect for Christmas occasions – just think of how perfectly you’ll coordinate with the green and red décor! Be sure to find the right shade for your skin tone – darker skin tones should opt for colors with an orangey base to make a brighter statement, and lighter skin tones can look for colors with blue undertones for more drama.

3. A smoky eye is a timeless classic and will always be sure to be a hit at any party this holiday season. Use black eyeliner to line your eyes on both the waterline and on the eyelid. Be sure to choose mascara with black hues to add to the drama and lengthen your lashes, making your eyes stand out and appear bigger. Throwing in a nice silvery eye shadow or even some gold sparkle on the eyelid will only add to your festive aura.

4. So for those of you who aren’t all about the red lip need not miss out on the lipstick fun. We recommend swinging to the opposite end of the spectrum with a subtle, warm chocolaty nude lip reminiscent of a lovely cup of hot cocoa! This look is great paired with subtle eye makeup for a day at the office or doing some last minute gift shopping, but for the party where you need to turn heads, play up your eyes to add a bit of drama to the toned-down lip.

5. The holidays are perfect for finally sitting down to practice that ever-classic and devastatingly chic trend, winged eyeliner! This look is best achieved with a gel eyeliner as it glides more easily and allows you to create smooth, precise lines on your eyelid. Start from your inner eyelid and create a line just skimming your lash line and then extend that line from your eyelid to make your eyes appear bigger and add a bit of retro glamour to your Christmas look this year. Using your finger to pull the eyelid skin tight helps avoid gaps or uneven lines. Throw in some volumizing mascara to add some further glam and make your eyes pop even more!

6. Nothing says you’re excited for the holiday festivities betterment than a little shimmer! Try looking for a nice glittery eye shadow, or add a bit of sparkle to any lipstick by adding a touch of ColorShow lip gloss, where the subtle sparkle will put you in the Christmas spirit!

Now we’ve given you all the tools for you to have a fun, fashionable holiday season while looking like a super star for all those timeless Christmas pictures!

The Maybelline New York range includes all your essentials for the holidays, from foundations perfectly matched to your specific skin tone, to lipsticks that can withstand the heat and mascaras and eyeliners designed to make your eyes pop! Vlisco, the leading textile manufacturer will on Saturday, September 5, 2015 launch the first Connoisseur of Style Day at the Vlisco shop in the Accra Mall and West Hills Mall aimed at protecting and educating consumers in identifying an original genuine African print versus a counterfeit one.

The Day is an extension of an ongoing anti-counterfeit campaign, which Vlisco launched in 2013 to put consumers in a position that they are confident they are purchasing an original Vlisco fabric which has gone through multiple processes to deliver premium quality to their customers worldwide.

Mr Stephen Badu, Marketing Director for Vlisco commented: “Fake fabrics make up about 60% of all textiles sold in Ghana today because counterfeiters have gone to great lengths to replicate authentic fabrics which makes it difficult for consumers to identify real from fake Vlisco. The only way consumers will know is after they have spent their money and bought the fabric before experiencing the vastly inferior quality of the fake fabric”, he added.

“We at Vlisco will use this day to educate consumers so that they will be empowered to make an informed decision when making that all important purchase,” Mr Badu stressed.

The course of the day that consumers will experience will include, Bring their Vlisco fabrics for authentication; Learn the 4 key steps to expertly identify genuine fabrics; Enjoy free give-aways and Receive a list of approved retailers where they can purchase authentic fabrics.

Vlisco’s heritage is quite unlike any other as since 1846, we’ve created unique textiles influencing the fashion landscape in West and Central Africa. This bond between women and Vlisco has continued to deepen over the last century and Vlisco is now woven into the African Culture. A bond that is sure to endure for centuries to come.

Last year, the 29th-31st of August saw a new type of fashion event in the Netherlands.

This was home to the first ever Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam (AFWA), which consisted of a 3 day interactive celebration of fashion, culture, music and talent within the World Fashion Centre, Amsterdam.

The event was hailed in the media as a great success, which saw thousands of visitors watch dozens of models glide down the runway in hundreds of African inspired or designed outfits to the delight and excitement of its audiences.

This year, with enhanced exposure, three Awards nominations, and funding, AFWA is looking to break existing records as the brand continues to grow in popularity within the media and community as a bench mark for promoting causes, uniting talents and breaking barriers within the community. The event will take place for the second year from 28th to 30th August at the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT).

´Many key figures from the Africa community have already confirmed their attendance such as International Superstar and Award-winning movie star Ramsey Nouah and several prominent business entrepreneurs. We are looking to break existing records and take the event to the next level, which is certainly developing´ Miss Diana Tambe (Founder and Chief Executive Officer of AFWA) quoted.

Visitors and media can expect to see a multi-cultural and talent rich celebration of African lifestyle and talent. From networking events and press days to 18 fashion shows. As from next year, the event will be held twice yearly and it will culminate with an interactive awards ceremony which will celebrate new talent, and launch Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam’s affiliated magazine publication, along with its cover face competition winner.

Sasa magazine will be an on-line and published bi-annual retrospective of arts, culture, fashion and talent based on the values of African society but fostering an inclusion for everyone.

The event will also be contributing a percentage of its profits towards The Diana Tambe Foundation (a charitable body seeking to promote, maintain and improve levels of healthcare, education, training and provision of facilities within the African community).

AFWA is founded by Diana Tambe, a young designer from Africa known for her high-end red carpet clothing-line Blackpearl. She exclaims ”The Ultimate vision is the empowerment of African designers, branding African countries as global players in Fashion, Art and Culture”

AFWA is supported by The Royal Tropical Institute (Dutch: Koninklijk Instituut voor de Tropen) a foundation based in Amsterdam that studies tropical cultures worldwide, Julian’s Luxury, Ramsey Films, NABC, The Diana Tambe Foundation, African Bulletin, Media Blackberry, African Celebrity Magazine, The Voice Magazine, TopStories Magazine, ABINA, Moki Media, African Entertainment, Elegance 101, SANKOFA, The Hague African Festival, RIS, SoulhourTV, Follow GH, Holland Textile (Sponsors the label Blackpearl, among others.
